One Down, Nineteen More to Go. (classes, that is)

I'm still here, are you?

Hi. I figured that I ought to at least post an update. Everything is pretty much all about school as long as I'm in class, which is in runs of six weeks. My first class is finished and we had a week off, but next week it gets going again. I enjoy my classes, but while it's ongoing it's like I'm doggie paddling for all I'm worth just to stay afloat. Really, the main thing that I don't like about being in class is not having time to read what I want to read because there is so much that I have to read, not that it isn't interesting too. I just wonder sometimes if maybe I get a better education when I'm on my own to read what I want to, because I'm always learning something. But having structure and having to apply it to something are good things. Well, once I finish just 19 more six-week long classes I will be ready to start practicum and internships.

The job situation needs an update. I got a new job! Now I'm working for the school district as a TA for speech therapy, in addition to Head Start. And I even feel appreciated there. It's faster-paced than what I've been used to, and now I have to be a morning person, which is a challenge for me, but I'm adjusting and it is working out.

As far as cars go, the little red Saturn needed a new transmission (ouch! especially when we had just bought the car two weeks before the breakdown!). It's still going since getting the trannie replaced though. It's hard to beat the gas mileage that little plastic cars get. Let's hope it keeps on going for a long time. You know, someone told me that cars are happier and perform better if you name them. Maybe it was my fault that we lost the truck, because it might have taken offence about me referring to it as the "found on road dead" (FORD) truck. I told the Saturn that if she will be a good little car for me, I will call her Cherry.

I have been knitting. I finished the handwamers some time ago, and then a mobius scarf in the same yarn. Here is the pattern. I keep forgetting to take pictures. You might think that knitting time would be hard to come by, but I found a way. Now that I am no longer working graveyard shifts, I knit while I read. Pretty much all of the materials for my classes are on PDF files. Adobe Acrobat Reader has a read out loud function (under the View menu). So I set the computer to reading, and I follow along on the screen with my eyes, while my hands pick up yarn and needles. The computer even advances to the next page for me. It isn't faster than I can read to myself, but at least it keeps me moving along.

Who needs a kitten?

Two have been given away, one is staying, and another is spoken for. That leaves two (girls). One of them is curled up sleeping on my lap right now. I've been used as a cat bed for most of the day today. There are definately worse things.

I think that I will leave you with that for now and make a goal to try to at least post something on either Saturday or Sunday each week. Who wants to email me and remind me if I get side-tracked and don't get it done? Feel free.
